Swiss strategic innovation agency, spinoff from ETH, merges with a venture builder

German version below / Deutsche Version unten

Spark Works, Switzerland’s leading strategic innovation agency, has merged with Creative Dock, a leading European venture builder, effective from January, 2022.

Spark Works, which originally started out of a lab at ETH Zürich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, will bring its expertise in innovation alongside various methods and tools to strengthen the frontend of Creative Dock’s innovation cycle for clients. Founded in 2016 by Alan Cabello, Linda Armbruster and Prof. Stefano Brusoni, the company has a long list of impressive clients (including UBS, SwissRe and Roche), in addition to its strong academic ties.

The acquisition of Spark Works fits into Creative Dock’s strategy to make Europe a global digital player and drive innovation across the continent.

“Spark Works has a very strong and passionate team and methodology in designing and testing products that we find rewarding. They will focus on pushing our capabilities in the early stages of our projects, across the group,” says Martin Pejša, CEO,Creative Dock.

Creative Dock points out that although many companies, who serve millions of clients, are organised and designed to fit needs on such a large scale, this setup is not in favour of speed, flexibility and risk taking. Accordingly, Creative Dock’s role is to fill that space by building and scaling new services which help its partners to withstand the attacks of new digital players or, conversely, be the first to seize new opportunities.

Now in its third year of operation in Switzerland, Creative Dock sees that size makes a difference to its clients and opens up further opportunities. The organisation aims to develop industry, venture building and stand next to CEOs of big companies when they say they need to digitalise.

Linda Armbruster, Managing Partner at Spark Works, who will continue to lead her team out of Zurich added: “We will strengthen the front end of the innovation cycle through our expertise in various methods and tools. Specific areas of work include qualitative user research and testing, product and service design, future foresight, etc. Our academic origin and backgrounds have helped us to date strengthen our reputation as a solid innovation partner.” The managing partner also pointed out that “through this combined new team, we will now have the capability to help any organisation bring their innovations from post-it notes to market.”

For clients of both companies, the merger means expanded capabilities. Whether this is through the diversity of services, deep knowledge of other industries, or the ability to better scale projects across Europe.

About the companies

Creative Dock is a successful and growing venture builder who has built over 60 businesses and products for over twenty multinational companies across Europe.

Spark Works is an international strategic innovation company, founded in Switzerland. The company helps large organisations become self-sustaining innovators.
